200 Hour Level 1 Aerial Teacher Training
About
The following courses are part of the Born to Fly Aerial Teacher Certificate Program. All who meet the prerequisites are welcome to train with us, and the certificate is optional. This live course covers up to 170 hours towards your certificate. The remaining 30 hours is done via teaching hours at your home studio. Please note: Applying for our certificate program is done separately from applying for the teacher training.
This month-long training was designed to give you insight into how to best teach beginning aerial students -- on ANY apparatus. We will specifically cover the skill-set of Level 1 fabric, trapeze, hoop, and sling.
Teaching Philosophy
When students start aerial, they often gravitate towards one apparatus as a favorite. However, as they further their study, it quickly becomes apparent that studying more than one apparatus helps you become a better aerialist overall. The skills on one apparatus (such as learning lion in a tree on hoop) can transfer over to another apparatus (sling or trapeze) and sometimes it's easier to learn a concept one apparatus (such as learning momentum pathways on sling) before taking them over to another apparatus (rope or trapeze). At the beginning level, it's both fun and beneficial to expose a student to as many apparatuses as possible.
To be a diversified teacher, it's also important to pick up the skills required to teach people of all ages. This course is designed to give you hands-on teaching with both adults and kids. You will learn and then practice spotting and teaching methods for ages 6-adult.

What You Will Learn: This training prepares the aerial instructor to work specifically with beginning aerialists of any age. We will also examine the age-appropriateness of various aerial skills, and identify teaching structures that keep kids engaged in class and find the things that adults love to because it makes them feel like a kid again.
In the Born to Fly™ methodology, we expose our students to aerial theory early on through puzzles and challenge their artistry through creative tasks. Our goal is to develop an aerialist’s strength, intelligence, and artistry simultaneously so nothing gets left behind. We ask students to spend more time with each skill, which allows them to build strength over a longer period of time before progressing to the next level.
