AERIAL YOGA
TEACHER TRAINING

This training is very effective in bringing concepts and teaching tools full circle.  It's great for mapping out a curriculum that keeps students safe, engaged, and progressing.  ~ Lauren J.
About
Aerial Yoga can look many different ways and the wonderful thing about it is that, as a still-emerging movement practice, each teacher is a pioneer in their approach. The goal is not to teach one particular method but prepare a teacher for the wide range of possibilities in their teaching pedagogy.

This 20-Hour Live Aerial Yoga Teacher Training will be led by Rebekah Leach in Missoula, MT. While having a 200 RYT background is helpful for those wishing to pursue aerial yoga teaching, it is not required. However, please note that due to the existence of such suitable certifications for the yoga component, this training will focus more on the aerial component of aerial yoga, where the reality of teaching this art form truly becomes more of a blend of yoga and aerial sling.

This training will prepare a movement practitioner to lead a beginning aerial yoga class. There will be time on the last day where all participants will be given an opportunity to lead a class if they wish to gain more experience teaching and cueing.

The ideal participant has at least 4 months of aerial experience and has had 3-4 years of practicing yoga, preferably interested in obtaining their RYT-200 if they don't already have it.

Teaching Philosophy and Methods
Aerial yoga is a practice with a playful spirit. We use the hammock as a prop to both modify and challenge traditional yoga postures, and then we swing and hanging upside-down, too!  Our approach is a balancing of opposites.  We are serious about safety and alignment principles (calling all anatomy nerds!), but we are also lighthearted and enjoy making our classes fun for everyone.

Practices usually begin with grounded postures that gradually transition into the air.  This allows students to find their roots before they begin to fly, keeping them centered for a more pleasant experience.  We teach inversions with safety as our number one priority, and we also offer classes that are inversion-free.  Our aerial yoga course sequence can also be part of the bridge from ground fitness to aerial arts programs.
I LOVE the curriculum and the theory that forms your foundation for teaching; this course has made me a much more confident, present, and mindful teacher! Furthermore, the theory and puzzle-building has provided me with nearly infinite class material!

What You Will Learn:  The course is an Aerial Yoga Level 1 course, and includes all postures, workshops, and case studies in our program.  We begin with warm-up movement, using the hammock to create length and openness through the spine. We then dissect the postures for alignment purposes, and explore various orientations to gravity to show how one posture can have many different goals.  We then progress into seated flying and standing flying postures, and arrive at full inversions and deeper opening/strengthening postures.  Basic transitions are offered to inspire gentle flow sequences, and a core engagement workshop tops off our movement sessions.  Discussions on safety, rigging, classroom management, and lesson planning are also included.  Each participant will also participate in practice teaching if they wish to do so.

"This training was so much more about the 'why', instead of the 'how'. I fully expected it to be 'here is this move, these are the cues you can use for it', and really appreciated how much more it was based on learning how to teach mechanics and skill progressions. Rebekah is incredibly skilled, knowledgeable, and talented as an instructor. I left each session knowing so many new things, and was excited to be able to implement them into my own lessons and practice after each session."
