Principles of Movement/TeachingGetting Ready to Teach Drops
Apparatus: Sling OR Fabric Time: Can be modified to any length of time for a general elective Prerequisites: Intermediate-Advanced Level on Apparatus. Audition video required OR have completed a teacher training in this area. Required Textbook: The Aerial Sling Manual Vol. 2 OR The Aerial Fabric Manual Vo. 2 Course Description: In the past, many have taken the approach "just go for it," encouraging students to fling themselves through the air and "just trust me." Over the years, we've discovered another approach! This method involves first assessing a students' readiness in body awareness and strength. Then, we go over the progressions designed to ease into drops so that by the time a student drops for the first time, they barely notice it's their first time. There is no fear, only confidence. There is no questioning, only trust in the analytical process they just went through to understand their trajectory and what is catching them. This is an important course that is covered in our Level 2 training, but can be pulled out to be its own stand-alone training or refresher course, giving even more focus and detail than the teacher training. Cleaning Inversions
Apparatus: Any Time: Suggested time 1-3 hours Prerequisites: Intermediate-Advanced Level on Apparatus. Audition video required OR have completed a teacher training in this area. Required Textbook: Applied Anatomy for the Aerial Arts by Dr. Emily Scherb Course Description: Even teachers can still struggle with clean inversions! This workshop is for everyone, but it is designed to give teachers the tools to help their students reach clean inversion success. However, in the meantime, teachers can also work on cleaning their own inversions if they are going to be demonstrating these techniques for their students. :) This course will cover the hardest part of inversions. The part between when a student can invert by jumping off the ground and getting a clean inversion in the air, where there is no ground to help give momentum. Learn about the muscles that need to be recruited and how you can assess your students to see which ones need to be focused on for growth. Teaching Improvisation and Creative Work
Apparatus: Any Time: Can be modified to any length of time for a general elective. Suggested time 2-20 hours Prerequisites: Audition video required OR have completed any teacher training. Required Textbook: None Course Description: It's so easy to jump from trick to trick to trick and then say, "ok, now improvise. Here's some music. Go." Students freeze up and have that deer-in-the-headlights look! If you've even seen that and struggled to know how to ease in to creative work, this course is for you!!! Progressions exist for creative work just as much as they do for skill-work. Your "creative-side" can be developed and grown just as much as any muscle. Take this course to learn how the process might look, and then have fun owning it in your creative way. :) Teaching Conceptually
Apparatus: Sling OR Fabric Time: Can be modified to any length of time for a general elective. Suggested time 2-15 hours Prerequisites: Intermediate-Advanced Level on Apparatus. Audition video required OR have completed a teacher training in this area. Required Textbook: The Aerial Sling Manual Vol. 2 OR The Aerial Fabric Manual Vo. 2 Course Description: Teaching conceptually is very different than teaching this skill then that skill. It is about developing the critical thinker inside of each student and then crafting opportunities to use those critical thinking skills. Specially designed and taught by Rebekah Leach, who uses her knowledge from teaching math secondary education and Naval nuclear physics. Learn to use your brain just as much -- and even more -- than you use your body in teaching aerial. Teaching Momentum: Beats & Spinning 101
Apparatus: Any apparatus (rope, fabric, sling, trapeze, hoop or straps, etc) Time: Can be modified to any length of time for a general elective. Suggested Time: 2-4 Hours Prerequisites: Intermediate-Advanced Level on Apparatus. Audition video required OR have completed a teacher training in this area. Required Textbook: The Aerial Rope Manual Vol.2 Course Description: Teaching beats and spinning is hard to convey in a book since it requires so much movement, so this is a great course to make sure to get in live! The focus will be on assessing readiness for dynamic skills, and starting the basics of bell beats, pike beats, front-back beats, etc. Some time will also be spent on spinning. The exact curriculum will depend on the apparatus chosen. This course is designed to give teachers the tools to teach their students how to move more effectively through these pathways and set them on the road to success. Youth Aerial Teaching Methods
Apparatus: All/Any Apparatus Time: Can be modified to any length of time for a general elective Prerequisites: 1 year aerial experience; an interest in teaching children. Audition video required. Required Textbook: The Aerial Teacher's Handbook & The Aerial Sling Manual Vol.1 Course Description: Children are quite different from adult learners. Their bodies and minds are at earlier stages of development, requiring special attention be paid to types of movements trained, how to present material, and how to progress them with safety in mind. This course covers child development from ages 2-16 and progresses into concrete skills and activities that support youth with material that is developmentally age-appropriate. |
Winning Warm-ups & Aerial Conditioning (Injury Prevention Focus)
Apparatus: All/Any Apparatus Time: Can be modified to any length of time for a general elective. Suggested Time: 2-5 Hours Prerequisites: Complete Level 1 training course on any apparatus Required Textbook: The Aerial Teacher's Handbook Course Description: This course dives into preparing the body for aerial movement and maintaining shoulder health throughout training. We will explore exercises that enhance core stability, increase flexibility, and build strength the healthy way through use of progressions and training cycles. |
Curriculum Planning & Development Apparatus: All/Any Apparatus Time: Can be modified to any length of time for a general elective Prerequisites: Complete Levels 1 and 2 training course on any apparatus Required Textbook: The Aerial Teacher's Handbook, Manuals 1 and 2 for your apparatus Course Description: This course dives into two of the most powerful teaching topics - progressions, and curriculum development. Participants will draw on their knowledge of their preferred apparatus to develop clear, cohesive progressions that support student success. We will then focus on the big picture and build an outline of a curriculum fit for your home school or studio. Shoulders Core |
