Core Courses

Core Courses are 30-hour trainings that are central to the program. (If the course has less than 6 people, the course is condensed to 24 hours.) Each course prepares instructors to teach level-specific material in a variety of apparatuses.

Aerial Yoga (Hammock)

Aerial YOGA Teacher Training Level 1
30 Hours
Prerequisites:
  RYT-200 required; trying 3 classes prior to the training is recommended.
Required Textbook:  Aerial Yoga Manual Volume 1 & The Aerial Teacher's Handbook

Course Description:  Participants will explore a variety of postures in the Aerial Yoga Manual Vol. 1 on the low fabric sling or hammock.  The course focuses on progressions, alignment, sequencing, and verbal/physical cues.  Rigging and inspection of equipment for your specific space will be covered.  The training culminates in a sample class, methods, a rigging assessment, and practice teaching.

Note:  This course can be split into two weekend trainings.
Aerial YOGA Teacher Training Level 2
30 Hours
Prerequisites:  Completion of the Aerial Yoga Level 1 Course with a Born to Fly™ master trainer or provider.
Required Textbook:  Aerial Yoga Manual Volume 2 & The Aerial Teacher's Handbook
Course Description:  Participants will explore more challenging postures in the Aerial Yoga Manual Vol. 2 on fabric sling including flying poses, and an introduction to injury prevention.  A sample class, spotting, and practice teaching, complete this level of training.

Note:  This course can be split into two weekend trainings.

Aerial Sling (Hammock)

Aerial SLING Teacher Training Level 1
30 Hours
​​Prerequisites: At least one year of experience on fabric. Must be at an intermediate level (can do basic inversions).  Audition video required.  Previous experience in teaching is recommended but not required.
Required Textbooks:  The Aerial Sling Manual, Volume 1 & The Aerial Teacher's Handbook
Course Description:   Participants will explore a variety of skills in The Aerial Sling Manual plus teaching topics including progressions, alignment, shoulder health, spotting, and verbal/physical cueing.  We will pay particular attention to the pre-beginner and appropriate progressions for foundational core and upper body tone.  The training culminates in practice teaching.

Aerial SLING Teacher Training Level 2
30 Hours
​​Prerequisites: At least one year of experience on fabric. Must be at an intermediate level (can do basic inversions). Audition video required.  Previous experience in teaching is recommended but not required.
Required Textbooks:  The Aerial Teacher's Handbook
Course Description:  At this level of sling, students should be able to perform a pull-over from standing on the ground but they may still be struggling with a cross-hip pull-over without the help of their feet pushing off the ground. So, to work on skills that encourage growth and having fun, all while sneaking in core-development training. The major skill topics covered in this training include knee hangs, cross back straddle (sling version), weaving choreography from diaper wrap, spread fabric moves, roll-ups (on the thigh), side back balance, and an introduction to corset. The technique training will include inversion training, early skin the cat training, and early c-shape training (through back balance introduction). 

Aerial Fabric (Silks)

Aerial FABRIC Teacher Training Level 1 
30 Hours

Prerequisites:  One year of experience on fabric. Must be at an intermediate level (can do basic inversions). Audition video required.  Previous experience in teaching recommended but not required.
Required Textbooks:  The Aerial Fabric Instructional Manual, Volume 1  & The Aerial Teacher's Handbook
Course Description:   Participants will explore a variety of skills in the Beginning Fabric Manual and teaching topics including progressions, alignment, shoulder health, spotting, and verbal/physical cueing. An exploration of linear versus global teaching methods will open your eyes to new perspectives of teaching.  The training culminates in practice teaching.
Aerial FABRIC Teacher Training Level 2
30 Hours

Prerequisites: Aerial Fabric Instructor Training Level 1 through a Born to Fly™ master trainer or provider.  Must be at an intermediate level (can do straddle inversions in the air, windmill to hip key, and comfortable inverting for a majority of the training).  Audition video required.
Required Textbook:  Intermediate Aerial Fabric Manual Part 1  & The Aerial Teacher's Handbook
Course Description: This theme of this course is inversions.  We begin by picking up with inversion progressions from the Level 1 training and add more layers of detail appropriate for progressing students into Level 2 material. We also emphasize progressions for SS and OS wraps, and crochet based skills. In addition to alignment, cueing, and spotting techniques, we will also dive into the process of teaching conceptually. Throughout the course, progression chains will be heavily covered. This course culminates in practice teaching.
Aerial FABRIC Teacher Training Level 3
30 Hours
​
Prerequisites: Aerial Fabric Instructor Training Level 2 through a Born to Fly™ master trainer or provider.  Must be at an upper intermediate to advanced level (can climb and invert repeatedly in the air and perform a clean single star drop).  Audition video required.
Required Textbook: Intermediate Aerial Fabric Manual Parts 1 & 2  and The Aerial Teacher's Handbook 
Course Description: This course builds on level 2 skills and focuses on the Intermediate Fabric Manual Part 2.  Practice in proper alignment, cueing, and spotting will further support conceptual teaching.  This course culminates in practice teaching.
Aerial FABRIC Teacher Training Level 4
30 Hours
Prerequisites: 
  Completion of Aerial Fabric Level 3  -OR- Completion of Aerial Rope Level 1 through a Born to Fly™ master trainer or provider.  Must be at an upper intermediate to advanced level (can do a double star drop,
 extensive stamina to work on lengthy, complex sequences.) Audition video required.
Required Textbook:  Aerial Rope Manual Vol.2  when it comes available, and The Aerial Teacher's Handbook
Course Description:  This course explores spotting and cueing techniques for advanced moves to include inside/outside seatbelt, ball, back balance, and other moves presented in the Aerial Rope Manual Vol. 2. Vertical theory is covered from a fresh perspective.  Rebekah uses teaching methods that place the learner in problem-solving mode, resulting in a far deeper understanding of the material. This course overlaps with the Rope Level 2 course. Momentum will be covered depending on the interest of the group. 

Aerial Hoop (Lyra)

Aerial HOOP Teacher Training Level 1
30 Hours
Prerequisites:
Must have at least one year experience on hoop or trapeze. Previous experience in teaching movement is recommended but not required. ​
Audition video required.
Required Textbook:  Aerial Hoop Manual Volume 1 & The Aerial Teacher's Handbook 
Course Description:
  This course focuses on the skills outlined in the Aerial Knot Manual.  Participants will explore a variety of skills including progressions, alignment, shoulder engagement, and verbal/physical cues.  Rigging and inspections of equipment for your specific space will be covered.  The training culminates in a sample class, methods, rigging assessment and practice teaching.
Aerial HOOP Teacher Training Level 2
30 Hours
Prerequisites:  Aerial Hoop Instructor Training Level 1 through a Born to Fly™ master trainer or provider.  Must be at an intermediate level, able to invert from sitting on the hoop without momentum, and pull up to sitting atop the hoop.

Required Textbook:  Aerial Hoop Manual Volume 2 & The Aerial Teacher's Handbook 
Course Description:
  This course focuses on the skills outlined in the Aerial Hoop Manual Vol. 2.  Participants will explore a variety of skills including progressions, alignment, shoulder health, and verbal/physical cues. Injury prevention and teaching methods will also be covered.  The training culminates in practice teaching.

Trapeze

Trapeze Teacher Training Level 1
30 Hours
Prerequisites:  Must have at least one year experience on hoop or trapeze. Previous experience in teaching movement is recommended but not required.  Audition video required.
Required Textbook:  The Aerial Teacher's Handbook
Course Description:  This course explores beginner skills on both single-point dance trapeze and static trapeze to emphasize similarities and differences between these two distinct ways of using the apparatus.  Progressions from the ground up, spotting techniques, cueing, and alignment are cornerstones of this course.  We will also explore how to instill good habits that promote shoulder health in beginners, and practice teaching a 1 hour lesson.

Electives or Other General Certificates

Electives are supplemental courses (generally 5-15 hours) that can completed alongside a core 30-hour course  (see courses above), or can be completed as part of the certificate program renewal process.  Elective courses can also count as continuing education toward certificate renewal.

Principles of Movement/Teaching

Youth Aerial Teaching Methods
All/Any Apparatus
 30 Hours for the General Youth Teaching Certificate (50 Hours total after practicum)  - OR -
can be modified to any length of time for a general elective

Prerequisites:  1 year aerial experience; an interest in teaching children. Audition video required.
Required Textbook:  The Aerial Teacher's Handbook & The Aerial Sling Manual Vol.1
Course Description:  Children are quite different from adult learners.  Their bodies and minds are at earlier stages of development, requiring special attention be paid to types of movements trained, how to present material, and how to progress them with safety in mind.  This course covers child development from ages 2-16 and progresses into concrete skills and activities that support youth with material that is developmentally age-appropriate.  
Winning Warm-ups & Aerial Conditioning (Injury Prevention Focus)
All/Any Apparatus
7.5 Hours 
Prerequisites: Complete Level 1 training course on any apparatus
Required Textbook:  The Aerial Teacher's Handbook
Course Description: This course dives into preparing the body for aerial movement and maintaining shoulder health throughout training.  We will explore exercises that enhance core stability, increase flexibility, and build strength the healthy way through use of progressions and training cycles.
Curriculum Planning & Development
All/Any Apparatus
10 Hours
Prerequisites: Complete Levels 1 and 2 training course on any apparatus
Required Textbook: The Aerial Teacher's Handbook, Manuals 1 and 2 for your apparatus
Course Description: This course dives into two of the most powerful teaching topics - progressions, and curriculum development.  Participants will draw on their knowledge of their preferred apparatus to develop clear, cohesive progressions that support student success.  We will then focus on the big picture and build an outline of a curriculum fit for your home school or studio.
