Program Structure

Pre Training
During pre-training, you will:
  1. Access course materials prior to the training.  Order your books in advance and begin the assigned reading ahead of time.  Going through this information before the live training exposes you to the concepts of that particular training and allow you to form questions in advance.
  2. Ask questions before the training begins.  For certain trainings, you will receive a Pre-Training Packet containing guiding questions for each unit covered in that training.  The packet includes specific reading assignments in your textbooks to help you prepare for the training.

Live Training
During live training, you will:
  1. Train for 30 hours per level/apparatus working with highly experienced trainers, examining the nuances of aerial teaching and learning.
  2. Go more in-depth and apply concepts.  Since our participants complete several readings and video modules before the live training, we have more time to go deep.  We can focus on the specific questions of the group, review concepts that may not have made since in the pre-training, and give each trainee the chance to apply concepts in real time.
  3. Get your questions answered.  Have you ever wondered if your climbing technique was as efficient as it could be?  Or perhaps some skill is quite challenging for you to teach, and you would like techniques to make that skill go more smoothly.  Every training brings together a vibrant group of individuals with different strengths and backgrounds, and the wisdom of the group truly shines during live trainings.

Post Training
After the live training ends, many trainees choose to continue the learning process through either our support network or certification.

The Certification includes:
  • Online video modules to reinforce the concepts covered in live trainings, but at much greater depth.  It is more than a review, and encourages actionable steps and application.
  • A unique practicum plan tailored to your needs and interests as a teacher.  While we set the core requirements for certification, we offer some flexibility so you can focus your time where you need.
  • Mentorship from any Born to Fly trainer of your choosing (optional).
  • Comprehensive feedback on a class you teach and submit to us via video.  Constance Palmer and Elizabeth Stich review each video personally, write thorough feedback, and answer your questions via Skype.
  • CPR certification required to complete the program.
  • A personal profile page containing your certification status and other support documents.
  • Membership in a secret Facebook group moderated by Julianna and Rebekah.  All past and current trainees belong to the group, so you can ask questions and share your successes.

Support Network services are available a la carte:
  • Mentorship from any Born to Fly trainer of your choosing (optional).
  • Comprehensive feedback on a class you teach and submit to us via video.  Specially selected master teachers review each video personally, write thorough feedback, and answer your questions via an online meeting.

What people are saying...

"The course exceeded my expectations and goals.  It made me a better teacher even for other disciplines I teach."
~ Lorelle S.

"Julianna is a wonderful, patient, generous, and extremely knowledgeable teacher.  I was amazed by both the depth and breadth of her knowledge in anatomy, body mechanics, kinesiology, somatics, and her very practical seamless application of that knowledge.  She is a master teacher."
~ Sara A.
"Our instructor was extremely knowledgeable.  I appreciated that she drew from different backgrounds (i.e. circus, yoga, and dance), and fused them all together."
~ Christina D.
