Aerial YOGA Teacher TrainingsAbout
The following courses are part of the Born to Fly™ Aerial Teacher Certificate Program. All who meet the prerequisites are welcome to train with us, and the certificate is optional. Teaching Philosophy and Methods Aerial yoga is a practice with a playful spirit. We use the hammock as a prop to both modify and challenge traditional yoga postures, and then we swing and hanging upside-down, too! Our approach is a balancing of opposites. We are serious about safety and alignment principles (calling all anatomy nerds!), but we are also lighthearted and enjoy making our classes fun for everyone. Practices usually begin with grounded postures that gradually transition into the air. This allows students to find their roots before they begin to fly, keeping them centered for a more pleasant experience. We teach inversions with safety as our number one priority, and we also offer classes that are inversion-free. Our aerial yoga course sequence can also be part of the bridge from ground fitness to aerial arts programs. Prerequisites:

What You Will Learn: The course is the newly combined Aerial Yoga Levels 1 & 2 course, and includes all postures, workshops, and case studies in our program. We begin with warm-up movement, using the hammock to create length and openness through the spine. We then dissect the postures for alignment purposes, and explore various orientations to gravity to show how one posture can have many different goals. We then progress into seated flying and standing flying postures, and arrive at full inversions and deeper opening/strengthening postures. Basic transitions are offered to inspire gentle flow sequences, and a core engagement workshop tops off our movement sessions. Discussions on safety, rigging, classroom management, and lesson planning are also included. Each participant will also participate in practice teaching. Aerial YOGA Level 1 Teacher Training

What You Will Learn: This course introduces aerial yoga as an elevated practice using the fabric sling as a prop. We begin with warm-up movement, using the hammock to create length and openness through the spine. We then dissect the postures for alignment purposes, and explore various orientations to gravity to show how one posture can have many different goals. We then progress into seated flying and standing flying postures. Discussions on safety, rigging, classroom management, and lesson planning are also included. Each participant will also participate in practice teaching. We recommend that all aerial yoga instructors take both Levels 1 and 2 (either in the same year or different years) to experience the complete scope of our aerial yoga program. This helps instructors and studio owners create a comprehensive aerial yoga program at their studio with emphasis on safety. Aerial Yoga Level 2
Please see our course schedule for upcoming courses by one of our providers. Please note that their prerequisites may differ from what is listed below. Prerequisites:
Reading: (same as level 1 - order books here).
What You Will Learn: The course picks up from the Level 1 course and adds a sequencing and elements of challenge. Additional postures covered include strength/power moves such as handstands and forearm balances, as well as deep hip and back openers like full wheel. The hammock provides a supportive place to learn more difficult postures by providing a source of stability, but it also challenges strength due to its suspended quality. Spotting techniques will be greatly emphasized, as well as progressions for handstands and deep hip openers. More complex transitions will inspire faster paced flow sequences, and a flexibility workshop tops off our movement sessions. Trainees will practice their teaching skills on real students through three case studies. Discussions on safety, classroom management, and lesson planning are also included. We recommend that all aerial yoga instructors take both Levels 1 and 2 (either in the same year or different years) to experience the complete scope of our aerial yoga program. This helps instructors and studio owners create a comprehensive aerial yoga program at their studio with emphasis on safety. |
