Teacher-in-Residence Opportunities

About
The best way to getting better at teaching is by doing it!  All of our certificates require that you practice teaching. If you are looking for a place to complete your hands-on practice, we have just the thing for you -- a teaching residency at our Born to Fly Headquarters studio, AerialWorks Castle Rock.  Your teaching experience will count towards completion of your Born to Fly™ Aerial Teacher Certificate Program.

We also have a desire to get refreshed ourselves! If you are an experienced teacher and would like to come bless up with some fresh perspective, we'd love to hear from you.

Benefits the Residency
During your residency at AerialWorks Castle Rock, you will have:
  • A wonderfully supportive environment in which to develop and grow your teaching practice.
  • Private Teacher Training & Mentorship with master teachers
  • Housing if needed, 5 miles from the studio  ($900/month value but we rent it at a discount to you or provide if depending on the intensity of your chosen program)
  • Space for act creation/development and personal training  (a studio this clean, open and free -- priceless)

Timeframe for Residency:
We are very flexible, however, our studio operates on a semester basis, and ideally, we are looking for candidates who are interested in working on a semester basis. Our semesters are:
  • Aug-Dec (done before Christmas)
  • Jan-May
We take applications on a rolling basis and book up about 6 months-1 year in advance. We only accept 1-2 applicants per semester, so apply early!

Different Levels of Residency
Our residencies are at three different levels according to experience:
  • Any Teachers looking for Training.  Must have had aerial training for a minimum of 3 years. You can apply for a 50 Hour Residency Program or a 200 Hour Residency Program. The 50-Hour Residency Program allows you to focus on just one apparatus. You pick the level you would like to specialize in. During your time in residency, you will work with all different age groups and learn to be adaptable in each setting, working with mixed ability levels. The 200-Hour Program is designed to get you competent in a wide variety of apparatuses and comfortable teaching all age groups. You will become a well-rounded teacher in this program. At the end of successful completion of the program, you will earn a 50-Hour Certificate or 200-Hour Certificate, whichever applies.
  • New Teachers who have completed a minimum of 30 hours of LIVE Born to Fly Teacher Training. Residency programs can provide a way to get the 20 hours of required experience for a 50-Hr Level Certificate. (In this case, apply for the 20 Hour Residency Program or whatever is needed for your practicum completion.)
  • Experienced Teachers who are stuck in a rut and need some refreshing space in which to come alive once again.  :) This is not a certification program, but it can be a way to renew a certificate that you already have!

See below for more on each program.
